Matt Brown Academy Sport Scientist with Paris St Germain Football Club shared some interesting findings re. load and load placement with wearable resistance (WR) during high-speed running. They compared different calf sleeve loads (0.75 and 1.5% Body mass - BM) and placements (proximal and distal calf) on running mechanics and the electrical activity (EMG) of muscle.
Just sharing one finding with you - by simply moving the loading from proximal (Figure C) to distal (Figure B) placements, they noted increases in vastus lateralis (Effect Size = 0.43) and vastus medialis (ES = 0.32) EMG activity, without any changes in running mechanics.
It was concluded that distal loading as compared to proximal loading, can increase neuromuscular load without inducing changes in running mechanics. Thanks Matt and the team for sharing the findings and the figure also.
